Sue Summers, e=mc2 events

Where do you work and what do you do?

I am a Conference and Registration Coordinator at e=mc2 events.

What were your career aspirations as a child?

As a child, I always wanted to be an emergency nurse. I knew I would enjoy the fast paced environment and quick thinking on the spot. Looking back now, I can see the similarities between the two careers.

What's one thing your fellow MPI GCC members might be surprised to learn about you?

My background is actually in Architecture. I was an Architectural Technologist for approximately 6 years before I changed to the Live Events and Conference Industry.  I am also fluent in American Sign Language, so if you catch me waving my hands on site, I might just be trying to tell you something!

What are the primary types of meetings and events you're involved in?

The majority of my work is coordinating conferences. I have worked on conferences for up to 1200 delegates taking place all over Canada in a wide variety of industries including, Oil and Gas, Medical and Not for Profit. I also pick up part time work within our company to work special events; this has given more exposure working with different venues and suppliers.

I am born and raised in Ontario, and relatively new to the Calgary area. I thought this would be a great way to meet and learn from others in the industry and to explore different venues in and around Calgary.

What is your most memorable moment at a meeting or event?

The most memorable moment at a meeting for me is when I met Dr. Robert Ballard, who is an underwater archaeologist. One of his big discoveries was locating the RMS Titanic. We played the game KERPLUNK while we admired the artwork in the Hyatt Regency Calgary. He is such a great man! I really enjoyed his company, watching his presentation and learning all the great things he has done for discovery and children’s educational programs.

If you could have one magic super power, what would it be?

I would definitely choose to teleport! There are so many things I want to see and do, and having this power would save me so much time!
