Britney Peters, David's Bridal

Where do you work and what do you do?

Currently I work at David’s Bridal, and am doing casual/contract work for a few different firms including: Travel Trade Canada and e=mc2 Events. I'm still looking for the right opportunity to get me into the industry more permanently. I am volunteering on the side to increase my experience with conferences and events. I am on the board for planning the annual walk/run for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and am co-planning this year’s ONE Conference.

What were your career aspirations as a child?

Apparently when I was in Kindergarten I said that I wanted to be a nanny, so I could take naps when the kids did. I guess I have always been strategic. As a teen I wanted to do everything from optometrist to criminal profiler.

What's one thing your fellow MPI GCC members might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a nerd - I love puzzles. I do a Sudoku every night and I sometimes take practice LSAT quizzes for fun. In University I was part of the Math Club and won second place for the integration-Bee (Calculus).

What are the primary types of meetings and events you're involved in?

I've dabbled in a bit of everything - weddings, fundraisers, conferences, run/walks, and social events. I have planned quite a few social events for my church - which is what got me onto this path.

#WhyMPI?

Sue Summers was the one who introduced me to MPI. I really look up to her and I think she is really talented in planning conferences. In my opinion, it is smart to follow in the footsteps of someone who you would like to be like:)

What is your most memorable moment at a meeting or event?

As I am a bit new to all of this, I do not have a large repertoire to choose from. I was shadowing at an event that was broadcasted and I got to be the Vanna White for a prize draw. That was cool - and also terrifying.

If you could have one magic super power, what would it be?

I wish I could slow time down. There are so many moments that I could benefit from experiencing for just a bit longer!
